Amino Acid, Dextrose & Electrolytes is a parenteral nutrition solution designed to provide essential amino acids for protein synthesis, dextrose as a carbohydrate energy source, and electrolytes to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance. This formulation is especially useful for patients who are unable to meet their nutritional needs through oral or enteral intake.

✅ General Guidelines
• The total daily dose depends on the patient’s individual metabolic requirements and clinical response.
• The nitrogen and energy content per 250 ml:
• Amino Acid Chamber: 4.2 g nitrogen
• Dextrose Chamber: 710 kJ (170 kcal)
✅ Recommended Dosage
• Adults:
• Daily protein requirements: approximately 0.8 g/kg of body weight.
• Daily amino acid dose: 1.0 to 1.5 g/kg of body weight.
• Infants:
• Higher protein needs, approximately 2.2 g/kg of body weight.
• Daily amino acid dose: 2 to 3 g/kg of body weight.
✅ Special Populations
• In patients with fluid restrictions (e.g., renal failure), the daily volume should be carefully adjusted based on fluid balance needs.
• Post-operative patients should start with 1000 ml on the first day after surgery, with a gradual increase up to 3000 ml/day, depending on tolerance and clinical condition.
✅ Administration Volume
• Up to 3 liters of solution may be administered over a 24-hour period in adults, depending on clinical requirements.
Amino Acids + Dextrose infusion works by delivering essential building blocks and energy directly into the bloodstream to support the body's recovery and metabolic needs. Amino acids help promote protein synthesis, tissue repair, enzyme and hormone production, and maintain a positive nitrogen balance during illness, surgery, trauma, or malnutrition. Dextrose provides a quick and efficient energy source, helping to prevent the breakdown of proteins for energy. Together, amino acids and dextrose promote an anabolic state, support healing, preserve muscle mass, and stabilize vital metabolic functions, making this combination crucial for nutritional therapy in critically ill or recovering patients.
Not officially assigned (similar to former Category C); use during pregnancy only if clearly needed with close monitoring. Generally safe during lactation, but monitor the infant during prolonged use.
🔄 May interact with insulin or antidiabetic agents due to dextrose content, requiring glucose monitoring. Caution with diuretics, corticosteroids, or other electrolyte-altering drugs, as they may increase the risk of imbalances. Concurrent use with other IV solutions should be assessed for compatibility.
⚠️ May cause hyperglycemia, electrolyte imbalances, fluid overload, phlebitis at the infusion site, and catheter-related infections. Prolonged use may rarely lead to liver dysfunction or metabolic abnormalities.
📦 Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Use only if the solution is clear and the container is intact.
